| Logical Appeal | supports a claim using logic and facts |
| Emotional Appeal | present ideas and images that elicit strong feelings |
| Ethical Appeal | uses values or moral standards that are widely accepted to persuade |
| Rhetorical Question | a question asked where the answer is obvious and does not require a reply |
| Antithesis | a device in which contrasting ideas are expressed in a grammatically balanced statement |
| Repetition | the use of the same word or phrase more than once for emphasis |
| Parallelism | use of similar grammatical structures or forms for emphasis |
| Counter Arguments | statements that anticipate and refute opposing views |
| Allusion | a reference to something or someone that is known form history, literature, religion, or some other branch of culture |
