Rational Numbers
Term | Definition |

intergers | the set of whole numbers and their opposites. Expressed symbolically {...-3,-2,-1,0,-1,2,3} |
opposites | two numbers that are an equal distance from zero on a number line |
rational numbers | any number that can be expressed as a ration of two integers. EX. 6 can be expressed as 6/1. 0.5 can be expressed as 1/2. |
additive inverse | the opposite of a number. EX. the additive inverse of 0.5 is -0.5. |
repeating decimal | a decimal in which one or more digits repeat infinitely. EX. 0.3333… is written as 0.3 ̅ |
set | a group of terms. EX.{…-4,-2,0,2,4…} is the set of even numbers |
subset | a set contained within a set. EX. {2,4,6…} is a subset of the even numbers. It is the set of positive even numbers. |
terminating decimal | a decimal number that ends, or terminates. EX. 6.75 |
