Rational Numbers

TermDefinition
positive number a number greater than zero.
Venn diagram a diagram that is used to show relationships between sets.
inequality a mathematical sentence that shows the relationship between quantities that are not equivalent. EX. 5<8 or 5x +2 > 12
intergers the set of whole numbers and their opposites. Expressed symbolically {...-3,-2,-1,0-1,2,3...}
absolute value the distance of a number from zero on a number line shown by the symbol | |.
negative numbers a number less than zero.
opposites two numbers that are an equal distance from zero on a number line
rational numbers any number that can be expressed as a ration of two integers. EX. 6 can be expressed as 6/1. 0.5 can be expressed as 1/2.
zero no quantity or no value
