Genre

TermDefinition
Autobiography A true story about the life of a person written by that person.
Biography A true story about someone's life written by someone else.
Reference Informational books that give you knowledge on a topic including dictionaries, thesauruses, almanacs and encyclopedias.
Fiction Literature that is fake or imagined; NOT true.
Genre The word that we use to CLASSIFY different types of books, movies or music.
Fantasy Literature with make believe creatures like wizards, fairies, or dragons.
Historical Fiction Literature with make believe characters but the events took place in the PAST.
Non-Fiction A book that contains true facts and information.
Lyric Poetry that sounds like a song with rhyme, repetition, rhythm, etc.
Poetry Compact writing that is imaginative and artistic; it brings about images and feelings using figurative language, rhythm, and sound patterns; the meaning is packed into a few words and lines.
Prose Writing that is written in sentence form; includes all fiction and non-fiction.
Science Fiction A type of fiction that involves future, technology, space, aliens or time travel.
Realistic Fiction Literature with make believe characters but could happen in real life today.
Memoir A true story that you write about a MEMORY in your life.
Narrative Poetry Poetry that tells a story.
