Commutative Property property that states the order of addends or factors does not change the sum or product 34 + 41 = 41 + 34
Associative Property property that states the way addends or factors are grouped does not change the sum or product 15 x (6 x 34) = (15 x 6) x 34
Distributive Property property that states multiplying a sum by a number is the same as multiplying each addend by the number tend then adding the products 14 x (7 + 3) = (14 x 7) + (14 x 3)
Identity Property of Addition property that states the sum of zero and any number is that number 58 + 0 = 58
Identity Property of Multiplication property that states the product of 1 and any number is that number 86 x 1 = 86
compensation a mental math strategy in which you change one addend to a multiple of ten and then adjust the other addend to keep the balance
exponent a number that tells how many times a base is to be used as a factor
