| samples | represents entire population |
| biased sample | a sample that is not representative of the population |
| random sample | randomly chooses from the population who will be in the surveys, not likely to be biased |
| stratified random sample | breaks people up into groups. not likely to be biased |
| systemic sample | follows a rule. potentially biased |
| convenience sample | a lazy sample, picks people that are easy to get. likely to be biased |
| self selected sample | volunteers to be in sample. likely to be biased |
| mode | number that repeats the most in a set of data |
| median | the middle number in a group of data when numerically arranged |
| mean | average |
| range | difference between the largest and smallest number |
| mean absolute deviation | a measure of dispersion along with range |
| central tendency | mode median and mean |
| two way frequency table | divides data into categories across the top and down the side |
| joint frequencies | body of the table |
| marginal frequencies | rows and column totals |
| stem and leaf plots | displays data that organizes it based on their digits |
| histograms | displays data from a frequency table |
| box and whisker plots | organizes data values into groups |
