Five Themes of Geography
| Term | Definition |

| Hemisphere | Half of the terrestrial globe, divided in northern and southern areas by the equator or into eastern and western areas by some meridians |
| Grid | This is created when lines of latitude and longitude crisscross on a map |
| Absolute location | The exact position of a place on Earth |
| Human environment interaction | One of the 5 themes of geography: this theme involves how people affect the environment and the physical characteristics of their surrounding and how the environment affects them |
| Equator | An imaginary line that circles the globe at its widest point, a major line of latitude located at 0 degrees. Most places near this line are tropical |
| Location | One of the 5 themes of geography: this theme answers the question, "Where are we?" |
| Parallel | The term we use to refer to lines of latitude |
| Place | One of the five themes of geography: this them includes the study of a location's physical and human characteristics |
| Movement | One of the 5 themes of geography: this theme helps geographers understand how people, goods, and ideas get from one place to another |
| Regions | One of the 5 themes of geography: this theme allows us to make comparisons: we compare unifying characteristics in an area such as climate, land, population, culture, or history. |
| Degree | A unit on measurement used to determine absolute location. |
| Prime Meridian | A major line of longitude, located at 0 degrees, this line runs through Europe, Africa, and Antarctica |
| Longitude | The series of imaginary lines that run north and south from one pole to another: on a map, they run vertically. |
| Meridian | The term we use to refer to lines of longitude. |
| Relative location | The location of a place as described by places near it. |
| Latitude | The series of imaginary lines that circle the Earth parallel to the equator; on a map they run horizontally |
