How did the geography of West Virginia affect the early explorers? The geography made it hard for explorers and settlers to travel through and settle the state.
Why was West Virginia considered a prime location for the development of the lumber industry? Because West Virginia was a heavily forested state.
What other industries developed in West Virginia because of the lumber industry? Tanneries and pulp mills
How can West Virginia be called " the northern most of the southern states"? West Virginia is considered the most northern of the southern states because the northern panhandle extends above the Mason Dixon Line and the southern part is below Richmond, VA.
Why is Hawks Nest Tunnel disaster considered a "man-made" disaster? Because they knew about the dangerous conditions but allowed the workers to continue without breathing apparatus or safety equipment.
