Analyzing Graphs

Essential Vocabulary for Unit 1

TermDefinition
Analyze Discover or reveal something through detailed examination
x-axis The axis on a graph that is usually drawn horizontally (left to right)
y-axis The axis on a graph that is usually drawn vertically (up and down)
A graph that is increasing... goes up as you read it from left to right
A graph that is decreasing... goes down as you read it from left to right
Linear graph A graph that has a constant rate of change; a straight line
Nonlinear graph A graph that does not have a constant rate of change; a curved line
Global Maximum The absolute highest point on a graph
Global Minimum The absolute lowest point on a graph
