DRESS AND APPEARANCE

How did the military uniform combinations evolve into what Air Force personnel wear today? From a design of many devices to one that is plain yet distinctive, providing the appearance of a military professional.
Where can you find information regarding less common uniform items and combinations? AFI 36-2903, Dress and Personal Appearance of Air Force Personnel.
When wearing the uniform, you must adhere to standards of neatness, cleanliness, safety and military image. Name three additional requirements. You must 1) procure and maintain all mandatory clothing items; 2) follow local supplements and procedures; and 3) and keep your uniforms neat, clean, pressed, buttoned and maintained.
When may enlisted members request a civilian clothing allowance? When required to wear civilian clothes (for reasons such as safety or security) to perform assigned duties.
While in uniform, you may not walk while smoking, using smokeless tobacco, drinking or eating. What other restrictions apply? You may not 1) stand or walk with your hands in your pockets, other than to insert or remove items; or 2) walk in uniform while using cell phones, radios or hands-free headsets unless required for official duties using a government-issued device.

Ripped, torn, frayed or patched clothing; tank tops; shorts; short skirts; undergarments worn as outer garments; bathing suits; sandals; and any garments that are revealing or contain obscene, profane or lewd words or drawings.
Is the battle dress uniform (BDU) acceptable when traveling between military installations? Yes.
Name three of the four restrictions on wearing the uniform. What are the standards for wigs and hairpieces? They must 1) be in accordance with the standards for natural hair; 2) be of good quality; 3) fit properly; and 4) not exceed the limits for natural hair.
Are personnel working in flight operations or on the flight line authorized to wear wigs or hairpieces? No.
When can beards be worn? Only for health reasons, when authorized by a commander on the advice of a medical official.
If your commander authorizes a beard, your facial hair must be trimmed to not exceed _____ inch(es) in length. 1/4 inch.
If granted a shaving waiver, can you shave any facial hair? No.
Describe the appearance standards for mustaches. Mustaches cannot extend downward beyond the upper lip line or extend sideways beyond a vertical line drawn upward from the corners of the mouth.
Sideburns must be neatly trimmed and tapered in the same manner as the haircut, straight and of even width, and end in a clean-shaven horizontal line. What are the length limits? They will not extend below the lowest part of the exterior ear opening.
What are the standards for women's cosmetics? They must be conservative and in good taste, and will not be worn in field conditions.
Fingernails must not extend more than _____ inch past the tip of the finger.
