Equations
| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| Equation | a mathematical sentence stating that two expressions are equivalent |
| Let Statement | defines the variable in an expression or equation; for example, let w = number of weeks |
| Inverse Operations | pairs of operations that undo each other. Examples: Addition and subtraction are inverse operations. Multiplication and division are inverse operations. |
| Expression | a mathematical combination of numbers, variables, and operations; does not contain an equal sign! |
| Standard Form of an Expression | an expression in simplest terms; all like terms are combined |
| Solution | a value for the variable that makes an equation true; the answer to an equation |
