TermDefinition
obscure “so dark as to be barely visible” or “indistinct”
crepuscular means “dim” or “like twilight” ; used solely to describe the quality of physical light
nocturnal “occurring at night” or “most active at night”
tenebrous dark and gloomy and is used exclusively to describe literal darkness
swarthy reserved for describing dark complexions (the complexion of the face)
shrouded “wrapped in darkness”
dusky “dark” or “shadowy” ; also used to describe a dark complexion.
opaque (there are several meanings of the word. I have listed the one I want you to know) “impenetrable by light”
lowering “to appear dark or threatening”
penumbra “partial shadow,” the area between complete illumination and total eclipse
