Revise Static Electricity and Magnetism

What are the opposite ends of a magnet called? North pole and South pole.
Complete the following sentence; Like poles R_____________ while unlike poles A__________ Repel, Attract.
What instrument can be used to find the directions North, South, East and West? A magnetic compass.
What is meant by the magnetic field of the Earth? Earth is like a giant magnet, going from north pole to south pole. This makes a magnetic field around the Earth.
What is meant by the magnetic field of a magnet? The field where the magnet has influence over magnetic objects.
What direction do magnetic field lines always travel in? North to south.
How does a substance become negatively charged? By gaining electrons.
How does a substance become positively charged? By losing electrons.
What will happen between like charges? They will repel each other.
What will happen between unlike charges? They will attract each other.
What is a conductor? Something that can carry a charge. A static charge in this example.
What is an insulator? Something that blocks a charge. A static charge in this example.
What is earthing? Earthing is providing a route for the electricity to the ground to discharge into.
