Harmonic Motion - Importnat vocab to know from Unit 7 Lessons 1-2

TermDefinition
harmonic motion motion that repeats itself
cycle a unit of motion that repeats over and over
linear motion motion that occurs continuously in a line; it does not repeat a pattern.
oscillator a system that shows harmonic motion
period a time for one cycle
frequency the number of cycles an oscillator makes per second
hertz a unit of one cycle per second used to measure frequency; abbreviated as Hz.
amplitude the maximum distance from the average in harmonic motion; it is often a distance of angle.
damping the gradual loss of amplitude of an oscillator
periodic motion cycles of motion that repeat over and over again; the same as harmonic motion
