These are the academic words for 1st quarter

analyze To discover or reveal something though detailed examination.
audience Spectators or listeners.
capitalize To make a lower case letter to a capital letter.
central idea The idea of the story.
character A person in a novel, play or movie.
cite To say where you got your information.
comma A punctuation mark indicating a pause in the sentence.
conclusion Summing up of specific details of a text.
connotation/denotation Connotation- The feeling that the word suggest Denotation- The dictionary definition of a word.
conventions Punctuation and grammar
coordinate adjective Are adjectives that appear in sequence with one another to modify the same noun.
elaborate Very detailed
elicit To evoke or draw out.
evidence The facts or information indicating whether a belief or proposition is true or valid
formal style Academic words and phrases
inference An educated guess
main idea Important information that tells more about the overall idea of a paragraph or section
objective A goal.
parts of speech The main parts of speech are noun, pronoun, adjective, determiner, verb, adverb, preposition, conjunction, and interjection.
plot The main events of a play, novel, movie, etc.
prefix The word placed before the root word.
pre-write To write before.
punctuate To insert marks indicating the ending of a sentence.
purpose The reason for which something is done.
reflect To look back on.
relevant Closely connected or appropriate to the problem at hand
revise Reconsider or alter.
rhyme Correspondence of sound between words.
role A character in a movie, book. etc.
root Base word.
stanza A paragraph in a pome
style A manner of doing something
suffix The word added to the end of the root word.
summary A brief statement of the main points of a story.
supporting detail Gives us the full detail.
technical meaning The literal meaning.
theme The lesson the story tells us.
tone The attitude of a place, piece of writing, or situation.
