Vocabulary

TermDefinition
program goals are broad statements of purpose that state the desired end results - what is to be achieved.
content and process-centered approach learning is seen as a constant process of exploring and questioning the environment. A hands on curriculum is stressed.
direct learning experience are planned with a specific goal in mind.
indirect learning experience occur on the spur of the moment.
teachable moment is an unexpected event the teacher can use as a learning opportunity
field-sensitive children like to work with others,
field-independent children like to try new activities.
visual learners depend a great deal on the sense of sight.
auditory learners are those who learn best through hearing.
emergent curriculum is child-centered. It emerges from the children's interest and experiences.
theme is one main topic or idea around which the classroom activities are planned.
spiral curriculum as children grow, their circle of interests becomes larger, like a spiral.
web is a planning tool or map that outlines major concepts and ideas related to a theme.
concept is a generalized idea or notion.
block plan is an overall view in the curriculum, It outlines the general plan.
lesson plan is a more detailed than a block plan. It outlines specific actions and activities that will be used to meet goals and objectives.
learning objective describes the expected outcome of an activity. Objectives are used to plan teaching strategies.
motivation describes how you will gain the children's attention.
closure refers to how an activity will end.
