Atomic Number Number of protons and electrons in an atom
Atomic Mass total weight of protons and neutron (everything in the nucleus)

proton a subatomic particle that has a positive charge and that is found in the nucleus of an atom. Represented by the atomic number
electron a subatomic particle that has a negative charge- found outside the nucleus
element A pure substance made up of only one kind of atom
compound a substance made up of atoms of two or more different elements joined by chemical bonds
mixture a combination of two or more substances that are not chemically combined
molecule a group of atoms bonded together
pure substance a substance that cannot be separated by physical means; elements and compounds
homogeneous mixture a mixture that is evenly mixed; also called a solution
precipitate an insoluble substance that is produced as a result of a chemical reaction
heterogeneous mixture a mixture that is unevenly mixed
