| narrative poem | tells a story, has a plot, and characters |
| haiku poem | a Japanese 3 lined poem |
| free verse poem | lacks structure |
| lyric poem | expresses thoughts and feelings of a single speaker, highly musical |
| ballad poem | songlike poems that tell stories; adventure or romance |
| concrete poem | poem shaped to look like their subjects |
| limerick poem | humorous, rhyming, five-line poems |
