Onomatopoeia Sound words.
Euphamism Term substituted for one that may be offensive to make it seem less harsh
Situational Irony When the audience expects one thing to happen but something else happens.
Bondsman A prisoner of war who was taken as a slave.
Allusion A figure of speech that makes a reference to well known person/place/thing.
Simile A comparison between things that uses like/as/than.
Metaphor A comparison that does not use like/as/than
Pun Play on words.
Dramatic Irony When the audience knows more than the character.
Hyperbole An over exaggeration.
Symbol When one object has a deeper meaning.
Personification When the author attributes human characteristics to non living things.
Verbal Irony When the speaker says one thing but means another.
Foreshadowing The author drops hints about future events.
Imagery The use of descriptive, picture-making words to create mental pictures.
Coalition A pact/treaty among individuals/groups during which the cooperate in joint action, each in their own self-interest, joining forces together for a common cause.
Irony Events are not what would be expected.
Soliloquy A speech made by a character to the audience that reveals her/his innermost thoughts/feelings while she/he is alone on stage.
High Class Citizens Who Make The Law Senators.
Stoic To accept hardships without complaints.
Parlay A conference between apposing forces.
Conspiracy An agreement between people to deceive/mislead/defraud others of their legal rights/to gain an unfair advantage/to over throw the government.
Aside A brief remark made by a character that the audience can hear but other characters cannot.
Pathetic Fallacy Term for the attributing of human emotion and conduct to all aspects within nature. It is a kind of personification.
Conspirator Someone who takes part in a conspiracy.
Tragic Flaw A character trait that leads to her/his downfall.
