Marbury v. Madison 1803 - Established the right of judicial review over federal laws
Dred Scott v. Sanford 1857 - Slaves are property and have no right to sue; people cannot be denied the right to take their property (slaves) anywhere in the US
Plessy v. Ferguson 1896 - Affirmed segregation of "separate but equal" facilities
Korematsu v. U.S. 1944 - War time internment of Japanese-Americans is ruled Constitutional. Case was overturned in 1984
Brown v. Board of Education 1954-55 - Successfully argued by Thurgood Marshall, declared separate is inherently unequal in public school
Miranda v. Arizona 1966 - Ruled suspect must be informed of his rights to remain silent and right to counsel
Roe v. Wade 1973 - Right to abortion during the first trimester of pregnancy
University of California v. Bakke 1978 - Quotas for affirmative action in college admissions illegal except where discrimination has been found
