13th Amendment Abolishes slavery
14th Amendment Rights of citizenship and guaranteed "due process" regardless of previous condition of servitude
15th Amendment Grants African American males suffrage
16th Amendment Created federal income tax - people may work beginning at age 16, and will pay taxes
17th Amendment Direct election of US Senators- Senators elected by the people, no longer by state legislators
18th Amendment Prohibition - the drinking age had previously been 18
19th Amendment Women's suffrage
21st Amendment Ends prohibition, legal drinking age is now 21
24th Amendment Outlawed a poll tax - no longer may pay in order to vote, poll taxes and literacy tests were used to discriminate against minority voters
26th Amendment All US citizens 18 and older may vote as a result of draft and Vietnam war
1st Amendment Personal freedoms of speech, press, religion, assembly
2nd Amendment Right to bear arms, gun ownership and regulates militia
3rd Amendment No quartering of soldiers
4th Amendment Right against unreasonable search and seizure
5th Amendment Right to a grand jury, against double jeopardy, against self-incrimination
6th Amendment Criminal trial rights, such as right to a jury
7th Amendment Civil trial rights
8th Amendment Right against cruel and unusual punishment
9th Amendment Other rights for individuals
10th Amendment Other rights for states
