| Term | Definition |
|---|---|
| image | The new figure that is produced in a transformation |
| preimage | The original figure in a transformation |
| isometry | A transformation that preserves length and angle measure |
| vector | A quantity that has both direction and magnitude |
| component form | The form of a vector that combines (horizontal, vertical) components |
| matrix | A rectangular arrangement of numbers in rows and columns |
| element | A number in a matrix |
| dimensions | The numbers of rows and columns in a matrix |
| line of reflection | Creates a mirror image of the original figure |
| center of rotation | A fixed point used to turn a figure in rotation |
| angle of rotation | The angles made by rays formed from the center of rotation to the image |
| glide reflection | A transformation where every point moves and then reflects across a line |
| composition of transformations | The result when two or more transformations are combined to produce a single transformation |
| line symmetry | A figure in the plane can be mapped onto itself by a reflection in a line |
| rotational symmetry | A figure can be mapped onto itself by a rotation of 180 degrees or less around the center of symmetry |
| scalar multiplication | The process of multiplying each element of a matrix by a real number, or scalar |
| circle | The set of all points in a plane that are equidistant from a given point |
| center | The point in the center of the circle |
| radius | A segment whose endpoints are the center of the circle and a point in a circle |
| diameter | A chord that passes through the center of a circle |
| chord | A segment whose endpoints are on a circle |
| secant | A line/segment/ray that intersects a circle in two points |
| tangent | A line/segment/ray that intersects the circle in exactly one point, the point of tangency |
| central angle | An angle whose vertex is in the center of a circle |
| minor arc | Part of a circle that measures less than 180 degrees |
| major arc | Part of a circle that measures between 180 degrees and 360 degrees |
| semicircle | An arc with endpoints that are the end of a diameter of a circle |
| congruent circles | Two circles that have the same radius |
| congruent arcs | Two arcs that have the same measure and are arcs of the same circle or congruent circles |
| inscribed angle | An angle whose vertex is on a circle and whose sides contain chords of the circle |
| intercepted arc | The arc that lies in the interior of an inscribed angle and has endpoints on the angle |
| standard equation of a circle | The center (a,b) and radius r is (x-a)^2+(y-b)^2=r^2 |
