Text Features Vocabulary

TermDefinition
tables large amount of information in a small place.
timelines shows important events in chronological order.
textboxes interesting facts or information the author wants the reader to know.
index alphabetical list of textbook subjects located at the back of the book.
sidebars extra information on a page that can be a different color or background.
cutaways pictures that show the inside diagram of a particular item.
close ups pictures that show details of something small.
back matter added information at the back of a book which can be websites or author's notes.
fonts printing that can be different styles, sizes and colors; can also be used to highlight important words and information.
vocabulary boxes words and definitions that aid reader's understanding of the text.
bibliography information located at the back of the book that lists the author's sources.
guide words words listed at the top of a dictionary page that show the first and last word on that page.
nonfiction writing that is information about real subjects and people.
