Steps of the Life Space Interview isolate the conversation, explore the young person's point of view, summarize the feelings and content, connect the feelings to behavior, alternative behaviors discussed, plan and practice new behavior, enter the young person back into programming
The goals of the LSI return the young person to baseline, clarify the events, repair and restore the relationship with the adult
Self-awareness questions what am i feeling now? what does the child feel, need, or want? how is the environment impacting the child? how do i best respond?
Behavior support techniques managing the environment, prompting, caring gesture, hurdle help, redirection and distractions, proximity, time away, directive statements
Steps of the LSI isolate the conversation, explore the young person's point of view, summarize the feelings and content, connect the feelings to behavior, alternative behaviors discussed, plan developed and practiced, enter the young person back into programming
Situations in which restraint should be avoided we cannot remain calm and in control, sexual stimulation is the young person's motivation, the child has a dangerous weapon, it could result in emotional trauma for the child, the child begins to act out in public, the young person is taking medication
Predisposing risk factors obesity, influence of alcohol or drugs, prolonged violent physical agitation, underlying natural disease, hot humid environment, certain types of medication
