Holocaust Vocabulary

Words that are important to know as we student the Holocaust

stereotype an idea that many people hold about a group of people that may often be untrue or only partly true
prejudice a favoring or dislike of something without good reason, unfriendly feelings directed at someone
discrimination treating of some people better or worse than others without any fair or proper reason
indifference lack of feeling for or against something
persecute to cause to suffer because of a belief; to hunt
racism a type of prejudice based on biological race
by-stander one who looks on and does nothing
segregation isolation; separation from others
victim an individual who suffers injury or is killed
up-stander someone who recognizes when something is wrong and acts to make it right
perpetrator one guilty of committing a wrong
genocide the deliberate destruction of a racial, political, or cultural group
