Holocaust Vocabulary
Words that are important to know as we student the Holocaust
| Term | Definition |

| stereotype | an idea that many people hold about a group of people that may often be untrue or only partly true |
| prejudice | a favoring or dislike of something without good reason, unfriendly feelings directed at someone |
| discrimination | treating of some people better or worse than others without any fair or proper reason |
| indifference | lack of feeling for or against something |
| persecute | to cause to suffer because of a belief; to hunt |
| racism | a type of prejudice based on biological race |
| by-stander | one who looks on and does nothing |
| segregation | isolation; separation from others |
| victim | an individual who suffers injury or is killed |
| up-stander | someone who recognizes when something is wrong and acts to make it right |
| perpetrator | one guilty of committing a wrong |
| genocide | the deliberate destruction of a racial, political, or cultural group |
