Geometry & Measurement

TermDefinition
Area The measure, in square units, of the inside of a two-dimensional figure or the surface of a three-dimensional figure.
Perimeter The distance around a figure.
Volume The number of cubic units it takes to fill a solid.
Length The distance along a line or figure from one point to another; one dimension of a 2- or 3-dimensional figure.
Width One dimension of a 2- or 3-dimensional figure.
Height The length of a segment that meets the base at a right angle. Also, called the altitude.
Base (1) The side of a polygon that contains one end of the altitude. (2) The special face of a solid figure.
Formula A general equation or rule.
Square Units A unit, such as square meter, or a system of units used to measure area.
Cubic Units A unit, such as a cubic meter used to measure volume or capacity.
