8. Ratio and Rates

TermDefinition
ratio A relationship where for every x units of one quantity there are y unit of another quantity.
rate A ratio that compares two quantities with different units of measure.
unit rate A rate in which the comparison is to one unit.
proportion A statement that two ratios are equal.
percent A ration where the first term is compared to 100.
formula A rule that uses symbols to relate two or more quantities.
percent A ratio where the first term is compared to 100
capacity The volume of a container measured in liquid units
meter Metric unit of length
gram Metric unit of mass
liter Metric unit of capacity
kilo- Prefix meaning 1,000
centi- Prefix meaning 1/100
milli- Prefix meaning 1/1000
