Story Elements/ Tuck Everlasting Test

TermDefinition
character the people or creatures in a stoty
setting when and where the story takes place
plot the sequence/ series of events that make up a story
falling action action or events that take place after the climax that often lead to the conflict or problem being solved
dynamic character a character who goes through an important change in the story- THE CHANGE IS NOT PHYSICAL
resolution how the problem or conflict is solved; wraps up the loose ends of the story
protagonist the hero or "good guy" in a story
exposition takes place at the beginning of the story and introduces the characters and setting; sometimes it may also introduce the conflict
external conflict a struggle between a character and something outside of himself/herself
mood the feeling a reader gets from the story
foreshadowing clues the author gives you early on to something that will happen later in the story
rising action important events in the story that build the conflict; follows the exposition
internal conflict a struggle that takes place inside a character's mind
climax the turning point in the story
theme life lesson or moral the author wants you to learn
antagonist the adversary or "bad guy" in a story
static character a character who does NOT go through an important change in the story
conflict the problem in a story
character vs. self an internal conflict in which a character struggles with his/ her conscience
character vs. character an external conflict in which one character has a problem with another character
character vs. nature an external conflict in which a character has a problem with something in nature, like an animal or a storm
character vs. society an external conflict in which a character is treated unfairly or has a problem with the laws of society
