| act | A major section of a play; these are divided into varying numbers of shorter scenes. |
| antagonist | The major character in a narrative or drama that works against the hero or protagonist. |
| character | A person presented in a dramatic or narrative work. They may be classified as static, dynamic, flat, or round. |
| climax | The moment when the action comes to its highest point of dramatic conflict. |
| composition | The act of combining parts or elements to form a whole as in writing, visual art, dance, music, etc. to create an intended effect or convey a message. |
| dialogue | The actual words that characters speak; authors use this skillfully in short stories to portray characters and to dramatize conflict. |
| euphemism | A less offensive way of saying something negative. e.g. "pass away" instead of "die". |
| imperative sentence | A sentence that makes a request or command and ends with a period. "You" is dropped from the beginning of the sentence but is understood by the reader. |
| multimedia | The combined use of several media. |
| publish | To make public; to produce or create for an audience. |
