QuestionAnswer
What is the formula to work out speed? Speed=distance/time
What is the formula to work out distance? Distance=speed x time
What is the formula to work out time? Time=distance/speed
What is the unit for “how far”? metres (m) or km or miles
What is the unit for “how long”? seconds(s), minutes(min), or hours(h)
What is the unit for “how fast”? metres per seconds(m/s) or miles per hour(mph)
A train travels 70 miles in 2 hours. What is its speed? speed=distance/time=70miles/2hours=35miles per hour (mph) did you remember shywio? And the units?
A car travels 10 miles in 20mins. What is its speed? Every 20mins the car travels 10miles; so 20 miles in 40mins; 30 miles in 60mins (mph) did you remember shywio? And the units?
A bike travels 3km in 15mins. What is its speed? Every 15mins the bike travels 3km; so 6km in 30mins; 12km in 60mins (km/h) did you remember shywio? And the units?
A bike travels 60km in 2h. What is its speed? speed=distance/time=60km/2hours=30km/h did you remember shywio? And the units?
A bike travels 14.4km in 1h. What is its speed in METRES PER SECONDS? Convert km into m so 14.4km=14,400m and 1h=60mins=3600sec then speed=distance/time=14.400m/3600s=4m/s did you remember shywio? And the units?
A woman runs at a speed of 8m/s. How far can she run in 100s? distance = speed x time = 8 x 100 = 800m did you remember shywio? And the units?
A bullet travels at 300m/s. How far does it travels in 0.5s? distance = speed x time = 300 x 0.5 = 600m did you remember shywio? And the units?
A car is travelling at 35m/s. How far does it travel in 1 minute? convert mins into seconds 1min=60sec then distance = speed x time = 35 x 60 = 2100m did you remember shywio? And the units?
You fire an arrow at a target which is 20m away. The arrow travels at 100m/s. How long does it take before the arrow hits the target? time=distance/speed= 20/100= 0.2s... did you remember shywio? And the units?
A woman runs at a speed of 9m/s. How long does it take her to run 1800m? time=distance/speed= 1800/9= 200s... did you remember shywio? And the units?
A rocket travels at 2,000m/s. How long does it take to travel 10km? convert km into m: 10km=10,000m then time=distance/speed= 10,000/2,000= 5s... did you remember shywio? And the units?
On a distance-time graph, what does a horizontal line mean? that the object is not moving
On a distance-time graph, what does a very steep line mean? that the object is moving very fast
On a distance-time graph, how do you work out the speed over a given time ? Find teh time on the x-axis; go up to the line and then across to the y-axis; read the distance covered over that time..... Then speed=distance/time
