TermDefinition
Effect Event that take place due to a cause
Internal Conflict A problem that takes place in a character’s conscience
External Conflict A problem caused by something outside the character
Plot What happens in a story
Character The people in a story
Chronological Order Events are told according to the time they took place
Irony A contrast between what is expected and what really happens
Climax The peak of any story, it is what the story is building to
Theme An implied message sent by any story; what you learn from reading the story
Unreliable Narrator One who intentionally attempts to deceive the audience or characters in the story
Alliteration The repetition of consonant sounds at the beginnings of words
Allusion A reference to a person or event with which the reader is expected to be familiar
Analogy A comparison to find the relationship between two dissimilar things
Flashback An event that happened before the beginning of the story or at an earlier point in the story
Hyperbole Figure of speech in which the truth is greatly exaggerated
