| Physical Change | Any change that alters the form or appearance of a substance but doesn't change it into another substance. |
| Chemical Change | A change in matter that produces one or more new substances. |
| Reactants | Substances that undergo chemical changes. |
| Products | New substance or substances that are formed. |
| Precipitate | A solid that forms forms liquids during a chemical reaction. |
| Exothermic Reaction | The energy released as the product form is greater than the energy required to break bonds of the reactants.( usually heat) |
| Endothermic Reaction | More energy is required to break bonds of the reactants than is released by the formation of the products. |
| Chemical Equation | A way to show a chemical reaction, by using symbols instead of words. |
| Law of Conservation Of Mass | During a Chemical Reaction, matter is not created or destroyed. |
| Open System | Matter can enter from or escape to the surroundings. |
| Closed System | Matter doesn't leave or enter. |
| Coefficient | A number placed in front of a chemical formula in an equation. |
| Synthesis | When two or more elements or compounds combine to make a more complex substance. |
| Decoposition | Reacts when compounds break down into simpler products. |
| Replacement | If two elements in different compounds trade places. |
| Activation Energy | The minimum amount of energy needed to start a chemical reaction. |
| Concentration | The amount of a substance in a given volume. |
| Catalyst | Increases the rate by lowering the activation energy needed. |
| Enzymes | The cells in your body that contain thousands of biological catalysts. |
| Inhibitor | A material that us used to decrease the rate of chemical reactions. |
