| What is Analogy? | Comparison or opposite of something else. "Money is the root of all evil" "Poverty is fruit of all goodness" |
| What is Apostrophe? | Exclamatory figure of speech "thou glorious son" |
| What is Epithet? | Some word or phrase applied to possession like " Mans best friend" for a dog. "The rock" for Dwayne Johnson. |
| What is Hyperbole? | Exaggerated statements or claims not meant to be taken literally. "So hungry you could eat a horse" |
| What is Metaphor? | Word or phrase applied to object or phrase. "He was boiling mad" "Voice was music to his ears" |
| What is Metonym? | A word/ name used as substitution ears for giving attention. "lend me your ears." |
| What is Onomatopoeia? | Word that mimics the sound of the object. |
| What is Oxymoron? | Figure of speech contradiction. "Same Difference" "only choice" |
| What is Parallelism? | Use of similar components. "Like father like son" |
| What is Personification? | Giving an idea or animal human attributes. "The fire swallowed the entire forest." |
| What is a Rhetorical Question? | Question asked for effect or emphasis. No answers expected to the question. |
| What is a Simile? | Comparing similarities between two things. "john is as slow as a snail" |
| What is a Understatement/litotes? | Used to intentionally make a situation seem less important than it is. " It's a bit cold today" - describing -5 degree weather |
