| Term | Definition |

| Line | With the drawn line, the artist records boundaries and contours and can also express emotion |
| Shape | A flat area that has clear boundaries; a closed line |
| Value | The degree of lightness or darkness of a color |
| Texture | An artists visual or tactile surface quality |
| Color | A hue that is caused by the different degrees of light that are reflected |
| Form | A shape having three dimensions |
| Space | The interval of distance between two+ objects |
| Balance | The way an artwork is arranged to make different parts seem equally important |
| Repetition | To repeat a line , shape, color, etc |
| Contrast | The effect of showing the different between two unlike things |
| Emphasis | The importance given to the center areas of an artwork |
| Unity | The harmonious relationship of the parts of an artwork to each other |
| Variety | A number of different kinds of things in an artwork |
| Proportion | The size or placement of something in relation to another part |
| Movement | The structuring of the art elements to lead the eye across and into the picture plane |
| Rhythm | A type of movement shown by the regular recurrence or flow of related art elements |
