Math Vocab~ Unit 4

| Superscript Numbers | A symbol or character that appears slightly above a line |
| Base Number or Base | The number that is going to be raised to a power |
| Exponents | The exponent of a number says how many times to use that number in a multiplication. |
| Power | The product of multiplying a number by itself |
| Term | A single number or variable, or numbers and variables multiplied together |
| Factor | The numbers you can multiply together to get another number |
| Order of Operations | The rules that say which calculation comes first in an expression |
| Expressions | Numbers, symbols and operators (such as + and ×) grouped together that show the value of something |
| Numerical Expressions | Represents a single value and consists of one or more numbers and operations |
| Prime Factorization | Can be divided evenly only by 1 or itself and it must be a whole number greater than 1 |
| Coefficient | A number used to multiply a variable |
| Commutative Properties | When you swap numbers over and still get the same answer |
| Associative Properties | When it doesn't matter how we group the numbers (which we calculate first) |
| Identity Properties | When the product of any number and 1 is that number. |
| Properties | A character or quality that something has. Such as color, height, weight, etc. |
| Commutative Properties | One of the basic properties of numbers |
| Associative Properties | When you add or multiply regardless of how the numbers are grouped |
| Equivalent Expressions | Two algebraic expressions are said to be equivalent if their values obtained by substituting the values of the variables are same |
| Distributive Property | The operations of multiplication and addition or multiplication and subtraction, we are multiplying each term inside the parentheses with the term outside of the parentheses. |
| Factor the Expression | Finding what to multiply to get an expression |
| Variable | A symbol for a number we don't know yet. It is usually a letter like x or y. |
| Perfect Square | A number made by squaring a whole number. |
| Evaluate | To calculate the value of an numerical or algebraic expression. |
