What were Polk's 4 goals for his administration? Lower the tariff, restore the independent treasury system, settle the Oregon question, acquire California from Mexico.
Why was Texas not annexed by a formal treaty? Congress lacked the necessary two-thirds support required to approve a treaty.
List 3 things that contributed to the Mexican War. Mexico's resentment over the annexation of Texas; history of hostility between Mexico and the US; America's belief in manifest destiny.

What caused the Californians to revolt against American troops during the Mexican War? Harsh treatment by American soldiers.
Compare and contrast Winfield Scott and Zachary Taylor. Taylor,"Old Rough and Ready",lacked air of superior, brave and friendly, devotion, bad strategist no camp discipline. Scott,"Old Fuss and Feathers" loved military organization, lacked warmth, not a popular, better strategy.
Which campaign involved Buena Vista? Northern Mexico campaign.
Which campaign involved Mexico City? Central Mexico campaign.
What was the Treaty of Guadalupe-Hidalgo? Mexican cession of New Mexico and California.
What was the Gadsden Purchase and when did not occur? This was a purchase of land bordering the southwestern US for a transcontinental railroad for $10 million in 1852, years after the war.
