Dramatic Conventions
| Term | Definition |

| Dialogue | Words that the characters speak. |
| Stage Directions | Tell the actors how to move and speak, describing the sets and props. |
| Dramatic Foil | A character who contrasts with another in a way that highlights the traits of both. |
| Aside | A short, quick interjection that reveals the inner thoughts of the character for the purpose of informing the audience. It is only meant for the audience, and the other actors "can't" hear it. |
| Soliloquy | A character speaking his thoughts out loud for the audience to hear. The character is or believes he/she is alone. It reveals a characters innermost thoughts. |
| Monologue | One character speaks to another at length. |
