QuestionAnswer
Atom Building blocks of matter made of protons neutrons and electrons.
Proton Positive charge, found in nucleus.
Neutrons No charge, found is nucleus
Electrons Negative charge, found in energy level s around the nucleus.
Bohr Diagram Energy levels of an atom, and shows all electrons
Lewis Structure Shows valence atoms
Atomic Number Protons + neutrons
Atomic mass Protons or electrons
Energy level Energy levels of an atom
Leptons Electrons
Isotope C-12,C-13,C-14
Quark Pin
Nucleus Center of an atom
Valence Electrons on the outer most shell
Family Metals,nonmetals,metalloids
Chemical Symbol Big letters that stands for the element
Metal Part of the family and can be made into stuff
Nonmetal Not a metal part of the family
Metalloid A mixture between nonmetals and metals part of the family
Period A name given to a horizontal row
periotic table has all the elments
compound two or more substances that are chemically combined
mixture two or more substances that is not chemically combined
matter anything that has mass
chemical property something that undergoes a chemical change
chemical change when two or more substances form into a new substance
pysical change can be brought back to it's regular form
monomer building blocks of complex molecules
polymer plastics
petrochemical a chemical made from crude oil
ion bond bond that envolves a metal and nonmetal
ion is an atom or molecule in which the total number of electrons is not equal to the total number of protons, giving the atom or molecule a net positive or negative electrical charge
covalent bond a chemical bond that involves the sharing of electron pairs between atoms.
Reation Rate The speed at which a chemical reaction takes place
conservation of mass Law that states the total mass of the reactants must equal the total mass of the products
Oxidation number a number assigned to an element in chemical combination that represents the number of electrons lost (or gained, if the number is negative) by an atom of that element in the compound.
chemical formula a set of chemical symbols showing the elements present in a compound and their relative proportions, and in some cases the structure of the compound.
Chemical equation A written representation of a chemical reaction, in which the symbols and amounts of the reactants are separated from those of the products by an equal sign, arrow, or a set of opposing arrows.
reactants a substance that takes part in and undergoes change during a reaction.
products The compounds that are formed when a reaction goes to completion
