The Atom

The atom, for science lesson 1+ 2

Atom is the smallest particle that still can be considered an element.
Electrons negatively charged particles.
Nucleus a small region in an atom's center
Protons positively charged particles in a atom's nucleus.
Energy Level The specific amount of energy an electron has.
Neutron a particle with no electric charge.
Atomic Number the number of protons in a nucleus of an atom.
Isotopes atoms with then same number of protons and different number of neutrons.
Mass Number the sum of protons and neutrons in the atom.
Atomic Mass average mass of all isotopes of that element.
Periodic Table an arrangement of elements showing the repeating pattern of their properties.
Chemical Symbol below the atomic number.
Periods an arrangement of rows.
Group an arrangement of columns.
