What is Proctor's attitude toward Rev. Parris? Does his attitude seem justified --why? Proctor's attitude is rude and somewhat sarcastic towards Rev. Parris because Rev. Parris basically called John out on not coming to church on Sunday's. His attitude does seem justified because he is embarrassed of what Rev. Parris is saying.
Rev. Hale arrives with books, "weighted with authority." What does he mean by this statement? This means that he is very devoted towards the suspicions occuring in Salem and he wants to show everyone that he is well prepared for this issue.
Describe the relationship between John and Elizabeth Proctor. What seems to have a profound effect on their marriage? John and Elizabeth's marriage is very tense and they don't seem to be as devoted to each other as in the beginning of their marriage.
Irony: When Hale questions John Proctor about the ten commandments, he struggles with one commandment in particular? What is the irony here? John forgets the commandment on adultery. The irony is that John probably needs to attend church more often.
What is implied about human nature by the number of accusations that are brought forth in Act II? Everyone is kind of sticking together by the accusations and they don't want to see their loved ones (children, friends, family) die.
What does Elizabeth mean by the following line: "The magistrate sits on your heart that judges you." Basically the "court officials" are sitting on his heart because he does not want to upset them and make things worse in the court room.
The topic of suspicion is evident in Miller's work. What might be Miller's perspective on Suspicion? He makes most of the characters believe in suspicion (a black cat, walking under a ladder, etc.) while others don't believe in their suspicicions
Reverend Hale asks what abomination has been hidden that might have brought this tragedy upon Salem? What are some of the behaviors that could be categorized as abominations? The affair between Abigail and John Proctor. Some behaviors would be jealousy, greed, and hatred because either Elizabeth or Abigail would have these feelings towards each other.
