What is the purpose of Workers Compensation? - provide medical care to injured employees for prompt and maximum recovery - provide income to injured employees while they are unable to work - pay providers for medicals ervices rendered to the injured employee
What do Workers Compensation benefits include? - medical treatment - weekly income replacement benefits for temporary disability - permanent disability settlements - rehabilitation treatments *** does not provide paid vacations/job interviews
Forms of Insurance Verification - copy the insurace card - call carrier/go online to verify
What are the three different types of disability? non-disablity, temporary disability, permanent disability
what is non-disability? when the patient is treated and able to return back to work
what is temporary disability? when the patient has injury/surgery that requires recuperation
what is permanent disability? when the patient cannot return to their job
Patients who have workers comp insurance cannot be billed ofr anything, true or false? true
when calling to verify insurace, what do you need to get? the name of the person you are speaking to. "sandy"
how are hard copy/paper claims sent? how is electronic billing done? hard copy/paper claims - through mail / US Postal Service electronic billing done via internet
Define audit to examine claims for accuracy/completeness before it is submitted to the insurance company
What is a dirty claim? claims that have mistakes on it, or something has been omitted
What do workers comp claims require that doctors document? date the accident happened, how it happened, where it happened
When does the cycle of insurance start? when verifying the insurance before the patient sees the doctor
the MBS should do what when taking a new patient? - copy insurance card front and back - copy photo ID - take completed patient info papers
