TermDefinition
Equation A mathematical sentence with an equal sign.
Multiplicative comparison Compare by asking or telling how many times more one amount is than another. e.g., 3 times as many as
Additive comparison Problems that ask how much more (or less) one amount is than another.
Area model A model of multiplication that shows each place value product.
Commutative Property of Multiplication Changing the order of the factors does not change the product.
Distributive Property of Multiplication over Addition When one of the factors of a product is a sum, multiplying each addend before adding does not change the product.
Partial product A method of multiplying in which the value of each digit in a factor is multiplied separately, and then the partial products are added together.
Rectangular array An arrangement of objects in equal rows in the shape of a rectangle.
Interpret To explain something.
Strategy how to plan to go about, to solve a certain problem.
Unknown The variable that need to be solved in an equation.
Identity Property of Multiplication Any time you multiply a number by 1, the result, or product, is that original number.
