| How are bulkheads different than baffles? | Bulkheads divide large tanks into smaller separate internal tanks. Baffled tanks have bulkheads with holes to control forward and backward liquid surge. |
| Should a tank vehicle take curves, on ramps, or off ramps at the posted speed limits? | No. They should take them well below. |
| How are smooth bore tankers different to drive than those with baffles? | They have nothing to slow down tho flow of the liquid. Forward-and-back surge is very strong. |
| What 3 things determine how much liquid you can load? | The amount the liquid will expand in transit. The weight of the liquid. Legal weight limits. |
| What is outage? | Room for liquid expansion due to rising temperatures. |
| How can you help control surge? | Keep a steady pressure on the brakes. Do not release too soon when coming to a stop. Brake far in advance of a stop and increase your following distance. |
| What 2 reasons make special care necessary when driving tank vehicles? | high center of gravity and liquid movement |
| What to check for when inspecting a tank? | Intake, discharge and cut-off valves. Make sure valves are in correct position before loading, unloading or moving the vehicle,Manhole covers and vents. Make sure covers have gaskets and that they close correctly. Keep vents clear |
