Science vocab

TermDefinition
Pressure The force pushing on a surface divided by the area of that surface
Boyle's Law A principle that describes the relationship between the pressure and the volumes of a gas at a constant temperature
Charle's Law A principle that describes the relationship between the temperature and volume of a gas at a constant pressure
Nucleus A central core of an atom containing protons and usually neutrons
Atom The basic particle from which all elements are made
Electron A tiny, negative charged particle that moves around the nucleus of an atom
Mass number The sum of protons and neutrons in the nucleus of an atom
Proton A small, positively charged particle in the nucleus of an atom
Atomic Number The number of protons in the nucleus of an atom
Model A diagram, a mental picture, a mathematical statement, or an object that helps explain ideas about the natural world
Neutron A small particle in the nucleus of the atom, with no electrical charge
Isotope An atom with the same number of protons and a different number of neutrons from other atoms of the same element
Atomic Mass The average mass of all
