| natural increase | the extent to which total births exceed total deaths during a period of time |
| net migration | the difference between outward migration(emigration) and inward migration (immigration) during a period of time (net migration =increase in population - natural increase) |
| optimum population | a situation where a country has the best number of people , given its economic resources , where output per person is at a maximum. |
