Math vocabulary for chapter 3

TermDefinition
Inequality A mathematical sentence that compares expressions.
Solution of an inequality A value that makes an equation true.
solution set The set of all solutions of an inequality.
graph of an inequality A graph that shows all of the solutions of an inequality on a number line.
compound inequality An inequality formed by joining two inequalities with the word "and" or the word "or".
Absolute value inequality An inequality that contains an absolute value expression.
Linear inequality in two variables An equality that is the result of replacing the equal sign in a linear equation.
solution of a linear inequality An ordered pair that makes inequality true:all of the points in the shaded half-pane are solutions.
graph of a linear inequality A graph of all the solutions of a system.
half-panes In a coordinate plane,the regions on either sideof a boundary line.
