Writing and Graphing Inequalities
Term | Definition |

Inequality | A mathematical sentence that compares expressions; It contains the symbols <,>,<=,>= |
Solution of an Inequality | A value that makes an inequality true |
Solution Set | The set of all solutions of an inequality |
Graph of an Inequality | A graph that shows all of the solutions of an inequality on a number line. |
Compound Inequality | An inequality formed by joining two inequalities with the word "and" or the word "or." |
Absolute Value Inequality | A inequality that contains an absolute value expression |
Linear Inequality in Two Variables | An inequality that is the result of replacing the equal sign in a linear equation with <, <=, >, >= |
Solution of a Linear Inequality | An ordered pair (x,y) that makes a linear inequality; All of the points in the shaded half-plane are solutions. |
Graph of a Linear Inequality | A graph in two variables that shows all of the solutions of an inequality in a coordinate plane. |
Half-Planes | In a coordinate plane, the regions on either side of a boundary line |
