Chemistry
Term | Definition |
---|---|
Atomic Number | Number of protons in an atom nucleus |
Protons | A subatomic particle with a postive charge that is found in the nucleus. The mass of a proton is slightly less than a neutron. |
Electrons | The electron is a subatomic particle with a negative charge, the eletrons are a generation of the lepton family. The mass of the electron is 1/1836 of a proton. |
Neutrons | A subatomic particle with no electiric charge and is slightly more heavier then a proton (10/31319). |
DNA | DNA is a molecule that encodes the genetic instructions used in the development and functioning of all known living organisms and many viruses |
Metalliods | A metalloid is a chemical element that has properties in between, or is a mixture of. |
Noble Gases | The noble gases make a group of chemical elements with similar properties: under standard conditions, they are all odorless, colorless, monatomic gases with very low chemical reactivity. |
Ions | An Ion is an atom or molecule in which the total number of electrons is not equal to the total number of protons, giving the atom a net positive or negative electrical charge. |
Chemical Reaction | A chemical reaction is a process that leads to the transformation of one set of chemical substances to another. |
Atomic Mass | The atomic mass is the mass of an atomic particle, sub-atomic particle, or molecule. The protons and neutrons account for almost all of the mass of an atom. |
Non-Metal | Non-metals are the elements in groups 14-16 of the periodic table. Non-metals are not able to conduct electricity or heat very well. |
