Math Terms

common math terms that should be known by high school graduates

integer a whole positive or negative number or 0.
quadratic formula x = [-b ± √( b²- 4ac)]/2a
scalar triangle a triangle with 3 different angles and three different side lengths.
isosceles triangle two side lengths are equal and two angles are equal.
converting from degrees to radian multiply by π/180
converting from radian to degrees multiply by 180/π
F.O.I.L method First, Outside, Inside, Last used to multiply binomials
binomial equation with two terms,Ex: (2x+4)
prime number A whole number that has exactly two factors, 1 and itself. Ex:2,3,5,7,11...
distributive property the terms inside the ()is to be multiplied but the outside term if there is not a + or - in between the term and the (). a(b + c) = ab + ac
