Unit 3/ Force and Motion
| Term | Definition |

| Force | A push or pull that causes a change in motion of an object. |
| Net force | The total of all the forces acting on an object. |
| Unbalanced forces | Type of force that causes objects to start moving, stop moving or change directions. |
| Balanced forces | Type of force that does not cause motion, Net force equal to zero. |
| Inertia | The tendency of an object to resist changes in motion. |
| Newton | A measurement used to describe units of force. |
| Friction | The force that one surface exerts on another when the two rub against each other. |
| Gravity | The force of attraction that pulls objects toward each other. |
| Geotropism | Growth that happens in living things in response to gravity, such as the downward growth of plant roots. |
| Heliotropism | The movement of a plant toward or away from light. |
| turgor pressure | Pressure exerted by water inside plant cells on the inside of the cell wall. |
| Work | When force is applied to an object and it moves as a result of the force. |
